Massachusetts Republican Assembly Fields ‘Blank Charlie Baker’ Campaign

Baker’s continued inability to support Republican values, causes, or candidates is no mistake.

The Massachusetts Republican Assembly is urging voters to answer Charlie Baker’s constant attacks on his own Party with a campaign to vote in the 2018 mid-term election and blank his name on the ballot.

Charlie Baker’s hesitance to support fellow Republicans – best exemplified by his failure to immediately support Republican U.S. Senate candidate Geoff Diehl at yesterday’s gubernatorial debate is just the latest action in a long pattern of stabbing fellow Republicans in the back.

In a week where Elizabeth Warren released documentary evidence that she is 1/64th to 1/1024th Mexican, Colombian, or Peruvian Indian – and liberal outlets like The Daily Beast and fake news organizations like CNN herald this as strong evidence of her claims to Native American heritage – it should be an easy call for a Republican governor to give full-throated support to his fellow Republican for high office.

For years, Republicans have been told to ignore Charlie Baker constantly undermining other Republicans in public and support “Charlie Baker’s team” in the name of unity. Four days before a special election in 2017, Charlie Baker pulled another hem-haw about an endorsed Republican candidate, Jacob Ventura, and said they differed on core values. He constantly undermines president Donald Trump in his public statements. Assembly President Mary Lou Daxland stated, “Enough is enough; there is no I in TEAM, Charlie. Our Party has a state and national platform. Stop weighing down the candidates who actually run on it.”

For years Republicans have been forced to fight headwinds imposed on them by Baker and his allies, as he structurally weakened the Republican Party’s governing body with patronage hacks like Matthew “Sirens” Sisk and Michael Case who not only legally cannot raise money for the Party (the Republican State Committee’s primary purpose), but cause it public scandal, especially at the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). The MassGOP is so poorly run under Baker’s influence, it doesn’t even name its own candidates for office in attacking their Democrat opponents.

Finally, most recently Charlie Baker was the only prominent Republican in the nation to abandon due process and common decency by saying he believed the accusers of now U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. “When Republicans celebrate major victories, Charlie Baker is always weeping to console the other side. While Republicans seek to repeal awful anti-women laws like the Bathroom and Locker Room [law], Charlie Baker is best known for taking basketball selfies with Maura Healey. Fortunately, Jay McMahon is a Republican alternative to her worth supporting,” Brian Kennedy, the Assembly’s national director, said.

For all the times Charlie Baker has told Republicans to effectively “Blank” themselves, it is time to “Blank” him back – at the ballot box. The Assembly does not support Baker’s opponent. In an election that offers no actual gubernatorial choice to advance the cause of common sense or conservatism, the Massachusetts Republican Assembly will invoke Baker’s own standard: Do not vote for the lesser of two evils. We urge all voters to check out our Blank Baker campaign for more details.
