Newton, Mass. Police Chief Resigns as Mayor Moves to Strip Money from Force

JUNE 16, 2020 – Newton, Mass. Chief of Police David L. MacDonald resigned earlier today in face of ultra-liberal mayor committing to remove funds from dept.

In his letter to the city council, Chief MacDonald calls the current situation of under-staffing and threats of additional funding reductions “unhealthy” for his officers, and “dangerous for the city.”

Mayor has committed to take $200K from police force to “study” the dept. This comes on the heals of certain young community activists petitioning the city council to remove at least 10% of the department’s funds, and more moving forward. See related story.
