Nigerian pastors and leaders will speak about the mass murder and enslavement of Nigerians in what has been a cruel religious war. The CFNS is an organization of Nigerian and Nigerian American human rights activists and their respective groups. \nThe purpose of the rally is to gain the attention of Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse\, who is a member of the U.S. Senate’s Select Committee on Intelligence and has spoken out against religious persecution in the past. He is in a position to take our information and use it to force the U.S. to put pressure on the Nigerian government to forcibly free the slaves. \nSince 2001\, Boko Haram terrorists\, Fulani militants\, and other extremist groups tied to the Islamic State and al-Qaeda\, have raided Nigerian villages\, killed tens of thousands\, and enslaved an untold number of women and children. \nCFSN member Stephen Enada\, president of the International Committee on Nigeria (ICON)\, said today\, “In Nigeria\, jihad terrorists are storming our villages and murdering our people. So far this year over 1\,500 Nigerians who are mostly Christians\, have been murdered by these jihadists and over 2\,000 people have been abducted or kidnapped. The situation is dire. We can no longer sit in silence as our brothers and sisters in Nigeria are being captured and enslaved.” \nAccording to the CFNS\, in 2021 alone\, hundreds of schoolchildren in Nigeria have been kidnapped. Parents fear sending their children to school. School-aged children are terrorized. Most of the individuals captured by Boko Haram jihadists are young women and girls taken by force and trafficked as slave concubines. They endure horrendous abuse and mistreatment. An example of one of these victims is displayed on the billboard: she is 18-year-old Leah Sharibu\, kidnapped from her school in Dapchi\, Nigeria\, in 2018. \n“Nigerian women and girls like Leah Sharibu who are enslaved by Boko Haram terrorists should never be abandoned or forgotten in captivity\,” said CFNS member Dr. Gloria Puldu\, president of the LEAH Foundation\, an organization which represents the Sharibu family and lobbies for Leah’s release. Christian girls like Leah are pressed by the terrorists to convert to a faith not her own.” \n“I’m confident that if we bring these facts to more people\, more people will get angry and start making a difference\,” said Samuel Akough\, a local Nigerian American activist from Omaha. \nNigeria is ranked third in the 2020 Global Terrorism Index (GTI) of countries most impacted by terrorism. Since 2014\, Fulani militants — a small\, extremist portion of the Fulani people — have accelerated the conflict with Nigerian Christians at an alarming rate. Fulani militants are reportedly responsible for 7\,400 deaths since 2015\, targeting and attacking whole communities\, schools\, and households. I’m a thinker\, a putterer\, a gardener\, a planner\, a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pantser. I’m patriotic\, political\, thoughtful\, passionate\, opinionated\, occasionally excitable when provoked\, and determined. I love my city\, my country and\, most of all\, I love my family. \nIn other words\, I’m you\, and I’m afraid. \nI’m afraid of what quality of life my grandbabies and great-grandbabies are going to have in the near future because of the choices\, actions or\, worse\, inactions I choose. I’m an old lady and the loss of freedoms won’t alter my life much but it will\, indeed\, affect your babies and mine. \nThe thing is\, we have so much more in common than not\, yet we find ourselves bogged down in the differences. I can only ask myself why\, how we got here\, and what we can do to change it. \nWe have a wonderful opportunity to begin to do that on Saturday\, June 19\, in a Freedom Protest and Rally at Stage Fort Park\, beginning at noon. The event welcomes all — Democrat\, Republican\, independent\, no affiliation\, those who aren’t the least bit political\, and really don’t care about anything except the future country we’re leaving for our kids. \nWe can all come together and enjoy just being free of the encumberments of the past year and to celebrate life. All those little moments we took for granted that were missing will be represented\, from live music\, kids activities and games\, speakers\, hearing what candidates for important roles have to say\, looking them in the eye\, and knowing who is the person for the job at this critical point in our children’s and country’s path forward. \nThe event\, hosted by the Gloucester Republican City Committee and 40 families from all beliefs and walks of life\, is intended to bring us together in a peaceful gathering to stand up for the freedoms that are quickly being eroded and will ultimately affect the long-term rights and quality of life for our kids. We can talk\, laugh\, share\, and be the Change We Want to see. \nThere will be live music\, kids games and activities\, freedom supporting candidates and speakers\, including Constitutional attorney Marc Randazza\, Constitution of States\, Camp Constitution\, Mass Stands Up\, Health Rights MA\, GOUSA founder John Paul Moran\, local small business owners Ashley Sullivan\, Sylvie Lockerova\, Peter Sklivas\, and so many more. The event is growing by the day. \nEveryone\, regardless of where you stand\, is invited and encouraged to come and pack up a picnic\, load up the grill\, and enjoy the great sense of coming together as a freedom-loving community after a very long last 15 months of many trials. There is no better place to spread our wings and breath fresh air than the beautiful shores of Gloucester. \nWe are so very lucky here in this country\, and we take the freedoms we have for granted because we’ve never been without them. Some will tell you the Constitution is outdated and no longer relevant. That could not be further from the truth\, but it’s the old “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone\,” and what we’ve got is a privilege and freedom that few others in the world have. Don’t let your Littles suffer the consequences of our ignorance and inaction. \nI will not sit down\, I will not shut up\, and I will love each and every one of you until you give me a darned good reason not to.
