Kennealy Slams Use of “Millionaires Tax” as Slush Fund for Illegal Immigrant Legal Defense

Waltham, MA – Today, Senate Democrats announced plans to spend even more taxpayer dollars on a legal defense fund for illegal immigrants facing deportation. The money would come from the so-called “millionaires tax,” which was promised to be used exclusively for education and transportation.

Mike Kennealy responded to the decision, stating:

“If Maura Healey spent less of your tax dollars helping illegal immigrants evade deportations and more of her energy on reviving our state’s economy, Massachusetts would be in a far better position today.

The state has already funneled $5 million to help illegal immigrants avoid deportation. Now they want to divert the millionaire’s tax funds to illegal immigrant legal defense.

This just goes to show that the so-called millionaires tax was a bad idea from the start. It was sold to voters as incremental funding for education and transportation but is being used as a slush fund for progressive priorities and it needs to be addressed.

As Governor, I will end the use of taxpayer dollars to aid and abet illegal immigration, period.”
