MASACHUSETTS LEGISLATURE
PASSES IMMUNITY LAW FOR
ABORTION INDUSTRY

On July 31st, the Massachusetts Senate and the Massachusetts House of Representatives passed to enact the so-called “Shield Bill,” S. 2543—An Act Strengthening Health Care Protections in the Commonwealth.

This measure would expand an existing 2022 law to conceal the identity of Massachusetts abortionists, abortion activists, doctors and others, who conduct “telehealth abortions,” and who prescribe or ship abortion drugs and puberty blockers to other states where child killing or gender deformity is illegal.

The bill would also mandate the performance of so-called “emergency abortions” by every acute care hospital in the state.

The act has now been laid upon the desk of Her Excellency, the Governor, Maura Healey, who is expected to sign this radical legislation into law.

On July 31st, Bob Katzen, the Publisher of Beacon Hill Roll Call, contacted the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts, seeking a comment on the passage of the law from League Executive Director C. J. Doyle.

On July 31st, Doyle issued the following statement:

“S.2543 is special interest legislation for the Massachusetts abortion industry. Once it is signed into law by Governor Healey, Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses will, with complete legal immunity, be empowered to ship the toxic abortion drug Mifepristone into states where its use is prohibited.

Mifepristone kills unborn children, and in as many as one in ten cases, causes adverse medical complications for the women who use it.

This measure is a legislative licence for Bay State abortionists to violate the laws of other American states, while being shielded from any criminal prosecution, civil liability or professional discipline.

It is disgraceful, though perhaps not surprising, that neither the Massachusetts Catholics Conference nor the Archdiocese of Boston spoke out against this malign measure, which, among other provisions, will force religious hospitals and pro-life physicians to perform abortions under the rubric of “stabilizing care” for “emergency medical conditions.”

The complacency of Catholic Church leaders may be explained by that old maxim ‘Follow the money!’

In July of 2023, the Healey/Driscoll Administration awarded Catholic Charities of Boston an unprecedented grant of one million dollars.

In March of 2024, the Healey/Driscoll Administration allocated an additional $2.6 million to Catholic Charities of Boston and Springfield for migrant resettlement and job training.

$3.6 million in public funds, it would seem, can buy quite a lot of silence.”

Doyle’s remarks were published in the August 4th edition of The Lowell Sun, and the Franklin Observer.

  1. Why would we want the government to be responsible for unveiling the identity of medical professionals, who are limited in what they can and can’t do by the government? That makes it seem like the goal is to make an example out of doctors following the law as it existed at the time they did the work, rather than targeting the root cause.
