A Small Army, But Worthy of Support

For our 149th edition, we’ve included a special map showing the Republicans running for the House of Representatives in Massachusetts. There four Republican primary races on Sept. 1st (three amongst new candidates, and one sitting rep. being challenged by his own party). In November, a total of 23 districts will see Republican challengers. The map also includes the 23 incumbent Republicans seeking to retain their seats.

The Democrats have given a free pass (no opposition) to nine Republicans running for re-election. There are typically reasons for this, but we’ll leave that for another day…

We prepared the map to give you hope: While the MassGOP has again failed under the non-leadership of Chair Amy Carnevale and Vice-Chair Judy Crocker, there are 23 (albeit some long-shot) chances to advance in the House.

Amy and Judy left the Democrats strong, with 114 of them having no Republican opponents. This leaves the mob of 114 free to support and fundraise for their few colleagues who will see challengers.

The bigger disgrace for Amy and Judy occurred at their poorly-attended July Republican State Committee meeting. At this critical meeting, little focus was given to candidates.

Amy and Judy have in many ways enabled another Democrat landslide. Some would correctly say the war is lost before the battle (voting) begins.

We can’t change that.

But, you and I can pick a Republican House candidate and support him or her through whatever donations, sign holding, letters to the editor, social media, etc. we can muster. Let’s try to move forward. ♦
