| Dear Friends,
I would like to thank, sincerely, all of you who responded to our September Appeal Letter. I am profoundly grateful for your continuing generosity.
If the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts is to meet its financial goals for the end of 2025, then I must, once again, turn to our faithful members and longtime supporters and ask for your assistance.
In the last three months, the League has been as busy as ever.
The Catholic Action League was the only Catholic organization in Massachusetts to defend Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch, when he faced a media firestorm after stating, accurately, that the sexual molestation crisis in the Archdiocese of Boston, twenty years ago, was not about pedophilia, but was caused by the presence of predatory homosexuals in the Boston priesthood.
When the ACLU, and other anti-Catholic hate groups, sued the City of Quincy for its plan to include the statues of the patron saints of policemen and firefighters in its new public safety headquarters, the Catholic Action League was the only Catholic organization in New England to point out that devotion to Saint Michael and Saint Florian was part of the culture of first responders, and that art with religious themes was found in public buildings all throughout America.
On Monday, December 1st, a longtime League member from Dedham, Tom Gorman, noticed a deformed Nativity scene in front of Saint Susanna’s Parish in that suburban Boston town.
The Pastor, Father Stephen Josoma, had removed the figures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph from the creche, and replaced them with a sign which read ICE Was Here, implying that ICE would have arrested the Holy Family.
Tom contacted the League and reached out to WFXT Channel 25. Boston 25 News interviewed me later that day, where I noted that Josoma had a long history of these crackpot publicity stunts, using Nativity scenes to convey left-wing political messages.
What followed was an explosion of media coverage.
Fox News picked up the Boston 25 interview, and it appeared on virtually every Fox affiliate in the country.
The League was on all six of the city’s television stations, on WRKO and WBUR radio, on ABC and NBC news, on PBS and Newsmax, and in The Boston Globe and the New York Post.
Providence television stations and the Spanish language Univision joined the coverage, and wire services like Associated Press and Our Sunday Visitor News brought the story to secular and Catholic newspapers all over America.
The League was even quoted in the British and in the Canadian press.
By December 4th, the Archdiocese had had enough, and ordered Josoma to take down the offensive sign, an order which he refused.
The Archdiocese of Boston had tolerated Josoma’s antics for ten years, but was finally forced to act three days after the Catholic Action League—quoted in the media on this issue more than a hundred times—made Josoma’s latest stunt into national and international news.
Since the beginning of 2025, the League has appeared in the secular and religious media, local, national and international, more than 250 times—a record unmatched by any other Catholic organization in New England—and an all-time record for us.
As you well know, the League is often the solitary Catholic voice in the public square, when so many official Catholic institutions are silent or compromised.
Anything which you could do to help us is urgently needed and will be gratefully appreciated.

No other Catholic organization in New England speaks out on issues of concern to orthodox Catholics with the force or frequency of the League, and none can equal our record of advocating Catholic principles in the secular news media.
Thank you and God bless you!
May you and your family have a Blessed Advent and a Merry Christmas!
Sincerely,
C.J. Doyle, Executive Director |
