Massachusetts’ Republican Party’s Latest Misstep?
It’s hard to be a Republican in Massachusetts. And the MassGOP, the governing organization of the Republican Party doesn’t make it any easier when they act like Democrats.
It comes down to one question: Can we trust MassGOP Chairwoman Amy Carnevale?
We all know the answer. Just look at the sham political caucus.
Can we trust John Milligan?
Once again, we know the sad answers.
Milligan is now the untrustworthy mouthpiece for Gov. candidate Mike Minogue. (See below for a just a little back up on that statement.) Just for a refresher. Milligan was the State Committee employee that backstabbed Jim Lyons to help elect RINO Amy Carnevale State Chair.
Now both Milligan and Carnevale are united in their claims that Mike Minogue did not buy delegates. Cue the laugh track.
Let’s review the data.
According to OCPF, Minogue paid his convention speaking fee in December 2025. The January 2026 report showed an expenditure of $100,000 to the MASSGOP and it was labeled “convention fees.”
Furthermore, emails to each gubernatorial candidate showed a deadline of January 23rd for candidates to get people to donate $5,000 to the MassGOP, in exchange for one voting delegate at the convention. These emails did not say a candidate could cover the entire cost, but that appears to be what happened with Minogue. We call that pay-to-play.
Boston Broadside has exclusively obtained the transcript of the Rules Committee meeting on the Super Delegates.
Brian Shortsleeve and his team led the effort to get rid of the Super Delegates. Mike Kennealy’s campaign advocated for 300 Super Delegates. Minogue went along with Shortsleeve, but then bought the delegates. He was against them until he bought them.
The transcript shows a passionate exchange between Milligan and State Committeeman Sean Powers, a Shortsleeve supporter, about the delegates. No surprise. Milligan was for 300 Super Delegates!
Moreover, Milligan led the meeting so he knew that Shortsleeve was against the Super Delegates. Then Milligan makes a statement, on behalf of the Minogue campaign which was printed in the Boston Herald this week, which flies 180 degrees from the truth. Milligan lie?! Like most politicians and their high-profile political figures such as Milligan, you cannot believe a word coming out of his mouth.
As Republicans, we are constantly pushing for election integrity. When delegates (VOTES) are being sold to the highest bidder we are no better than the Democrats.
Mike Kennealy wanted 300 Super Delegates. But his good friend Amy, who is loyal only to Amy, pushed a scheme to raise funding to pay the MassGOP’s rent, and salaries and other overhead by selling off a small number of votes at the convention, then issuing muddled press releases clearly trying to paper it over. (cover it up with a spin, calling the payoff for votes a ‘donation’ and an ‘investment’).
In this race for Governor, there is only one candidate who has been clear from the beginning regarding superdelegates and pay-for-play votes: Brian Shortsleeve. He advocated for no Super Delegates and did not buy any of them.
No offense to any of the candidates. We’re lucky they are all in the race, raising the volume of protest against Democrat Gov. Maura Healey. We can’t afford Healey, but we also can’t afford to lose the truth in our efforts to unseat her.
