Democrats Vote Against Road Safety
Concord, NH – House Transportation Committee Vice-Chairman Ted Gorski (R-Bedford) released the following statement after House Democrats opposed the passage of HB 1252, requiring the department of safety to only administer tests for commercial driver’s licenses in English and prohibiting the assistance of an interpreter during such tests.
“A fully loaded semi-truck can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. That can easily turn into a deadly weapon without a moment’s notice, even when the driver is fully trained and competent. Our roadway signs are in English and if someone is going to be driving such a potentially dangerous vehicle, we ought to expect that the driver is able to understand the signals and signs on I-93.”
Rep. Gorski continued, “Less than a year ago, our country watched a truck driver, who failed the English language proficiency assessment and CDL exam ten times, kill three innocent people by making an illegal U-Turn. Democrats’ opposition to our legislation to require the CDL exam in english shows that they are not serious about ensuring safe roadways in the Granite State.”
