GEOFF DIEHL STATEMENT OPPOSING VACCINE MANDATES FOR PRIVATE EMPLOYERS IN MASSACHUSETTS

DEC. 8, 2021
WHITMAN — Republican candidate for Governor Geoff Diehl issued the following statement today opposing recent comments by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu about the potential for vaccine mandates for private employers, similar to plans recently announced in New York City:–

“While I am deeply concerned about rising positivity rates for COVID infection in our Commonwealth, I am also troubled by recent comments made by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu suggesting that Boston may be looking at potential vaccine mandates for private employers, similar to the mandate announced by New York City Mayor DiBlasio this week.

“I oppose vaccine mandates. Support for individual rights and liberties, as well as support for economic growth and our business community, are bedrock issues for me in my campaign for Governor. Proposals for a possible vaccine mandate for private employers work against all of these principles.
“Even when government acts in the name of protecting public health, its actions always must be undertaken in consonance with constitutional rights.”
