Massachusetts Jewish Republicans Denounce Democrats’ Sponsorship of CAIR event

June 4, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEWTON — The Massachusetts Republican Jewish Committee condemns in the strongest possible terms the Massachusetts Democrat state representatives’ co-sponsorship of Wednesday’s State House event with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

CAIR’s notorious reputation is well known to Republicans and Democrats alike.

In 2007, federal prosecutors named CAIR an unindicted co-conspirator in a criminal conspiracy to financially support the terrorist group Hamas. A year later, the FBI severed relations with CAIR due to concerns of its continued ties with terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

At least seven CAIR board members or staff have been banned from the US, arrested, indicted, convicted, or have plead guilty to terrorist charges.

CAIR’s anti-Semitic tendencies prompted the Anti-Defamation League to conclude,  “(CAIR’s) public statements casts Jews and Israel as corrupt agents who control both foreign and domestic US policy and are responsible for the persecution of Muslims in the US.”

While we recognize and respect that the Muslim holiday Eid Al-Fitr, or the end of the holy month of Ramadan, should be celebrated at the Massachusetts State House, it is wholly inappropriate for any elected official to co-sponsor this or any event with CAIR.

The legislators who have signed on to sponsor this misguided event include the following state representatives:

  • Kay Khan (Newton)
  • David Linsky (Natick)
  • Tackey Chan (Quincy)
  • Marjorie Decker (Cambridge)
  • Aaron Vega (Holyoke)
  • Sarah Peake (Provincetown)
  • Jonathan Hecht (Watertown)
  • Denise Provost (Somerville)

We call upon the majority leadership in both chambers of the state Legislature to reprimand its Democrat Members for doing so.

  1. From the late 1890’s into the early 1980’s ethnic Irish-Americans, Italian-Americans and Jewish-Americans were a major foundation for the Democratic Party. The American South as well. Starting in the late 1960’s to present many Irish-Americans, Italian-Americans and southerners have left the Democratic Party because the Democratic Party left them. However, statistics show that in many national elections, over 70% of Jewish-Americans still vote Democrat. Why? Democrats have turned their back on them too.
